Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word ocument file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is 1,5-spaced; uses a 14-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.

Author Guidelines

The editorial board of Kyiv-Mohyla Humanities Journal accepts texts in history, philosophy, and literary studies for consideration, mainly with an emphasis on the Ukrainian context, according to specific types and themes.

Articles by collective authorship are generally not considered. Based on the editorial board's decision, an exception may be made for an article by up to 2 authors.

The manuscript should be original and not published previously. Please do not submit a paper currently being considered by another journal.

Articles must be of a research nature, meet scientific inquiry criteria, have scientific novelty, theoretical and practical significance, and demonstrate the author's proper familiarity with the relevant literature on the research topic.

By submitting materials to KMHJ, the author agrees with its editorial policy, ethical principles of reviewing and editing articles, open access policy, and copyright and confidentiality provisions. 

HOW TO SUBMIT AN ARTICLE:

FORMATTING REQUIREMENTS:

1) Scholarly papers should have at most 40,000 characters, including spaces and footnotes and endnotes.

2)  All articles should be written in proficient English. American spelling and punctuation are to be used.

3) Texts should be submitted in Місrosoft Word format (Times New Roman, the font size – 14, line spacing – 1,5, paragraph indentation – 1,25 cm, all margins – 2 cm) – no hyphens in words.

4) The article should contain:

  • name(s) of the author(s) (first name and last name);
  • their affiliation;
  • ORCID ID (https://orcid.org/);
  • an informative title, not more than 15 words;
  • an informative and well-structured  abstract (about 1000–1500 characters);
  • keywords italicized (up to 10–12; Times New Roman 12);
  • body of the article;
  • bibliography;
  • short bio;
  • acknowledgments (if necessary).

5) If necessary, tables, footnotes, appendixes, and photos in electronic form (of appropriate quality) should be included in the article. Please attach them as a separate file as well.

6) Preparing the bibliography, please use the APA (7th edition): https://apastyle.apa.org/  Сonsult The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, Seventh Edition for details.

7) The formatting of in-text references in articles should also comply with the APA standard (7th edition). The author's last name, year of publication, and page should be given in parentheses. For example: (Shevchenko, 1840, p. 22).

8) All references should be in Roman script. All titles in Ukrainian or any other language should be translated into English. If you refer to the article in a Ukrainian journal, please use the translation in the journal’s content.

9) The article can be divided into several subsections (e.g., introduction, theoretical framework, main subsections, conclusion(s)).

10) Section headings should be highlighted in bold without a full stop at the end, e.g.   

11)  The en dash (–) in the text must be separated by spaces. The em dash (―) should not be used in the text and the list of references.

12) All persons with a reasonable claim to authorship must be named in the manuscript as co-authors of the article. All acknowledgments (e.g., funding sources and names of contributors who did not grant authorship but made a significant contribution to the article) should be listed at the end of the manuscript.

13) All words in Slavic languages should be transliterated from Cyrillic according to this system: http://zakon4.rada.gov.ua/laws/show/55-2010-%D0%BF

Omit diacritics; do not use a straight single quote (‘) to indicate the soft sign (ь). 

14) Dates.  Follow the scheme: 2 October 1999; 1936–1938 (use n-dash between numbers); 1930s. The 2-letter endings of ordinal numbers should not be written in ordinary print (e.g., 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc.).

15) Place names. It should be spelled in the English version (e.g., Warsaw, not Varshava) in the text of the article and the footnotes. For more details, consult Webster’s (e.g., Kyiv, Warsaw, Vilnius, Belgrade).

16) Foreign words should be italicized (e.g., Kordon, Vagabond). Emphases should be italicized as well. Omit full stops in abbreviations (e.g., PhD, USSR, USA).

17) Quotations. All quotations should be translated into English. Please provide a transliteration of the material quoted near the quotation. Cyrillic is not to be used.

18) Titles of Ukrainian works should be transliterated without capitalization. The first time one is given, it should be accompanied in brackets by its standard English rendering, e.g., Perverziia (Perversion).

19) Figures. Please ensure all scanned material is scanned at the appropriate resolution: 1200 dpi for line art, 600 dpi for grayscale, and 300 dpi for color. Please do not attach them as a separate file. All figures should be numbered in the order in which they appear in the manuscript (e.g., Figure 1, Figure 2). In multi-part figures, each part should be labeled (e.g., Figure 1(a), Figure 1(b)).
