Focus and Scope

Kyiv-Mohyla Humanities Journal

Kyiv-Mohyla Humanities Journal is the first Ukrainian peer-reviewed journal in humanities which creates an international community of scholars to set up an open dialogue between historians, literary scholars, and philosophers, with an accent on Ukrainian and Central & Eastern European Studies. With its uniquely broad coverage, the journal offers readers new research relevant to the field.

Kyiv-Mohyla Humanities Journal provides immediate open access to its content making research freely available to the public and supporting a great meaningful exchange of knowledge.

Kyiv-Mohyla Humanities Journal is published in English e. g. articles in other languages are not accepted for publication.

Kyiv-Mohyla Humanities Journal does not accept articles published previously and commercial articles. The advertising cannot be printed in the journal. The editorial board of Kyiv-Mohyla Humanities Journal may not share the author’s point of view.

Kyiv-Mohyla Humanities Journal is financed by a National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy state grant. The majority of editorial board members work at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla on a permanent basis.

The areas of refereed articles cover three sections:

1. Literature (Ukrainian Literature in its Cultural, Historical, Philosophical, Comparative Perspectives);

2. History (History of Central & Eastern Europe of 16th-20th Сenturies);

3. Philosophy (History of Philosophy, Epistemology, Logic, Philosophy of Science, Metaphysics, Ethics, Aesthetics, Philosophical Anthropology, Social Philosophy, Practical Philosophy).

Peer Review Process

Kyiv-Mohyla Humanities Journal is a peer-reviewed journal. All articles undergo anonymous double-blind (the author is anonymous to the reviewer, and the reviewer is anonymous to the author) peer review by two reviewers e.g. international and Ukrainian.

When an article is submitted, the Chief Editor makes a decision to:

  • accept the manuscript without further revision (an acceptance letter is sent to the author and the final manuscript is forwarded for publication);
  • resubmission (the author is requested to make substantial revisions to the manuscript and resubmit for a new evaluation);
  • accept after revision (the author is requested to revise in accordance with reviewers’ comments and submit the article to the journal);
  • reject (no resubmission possible).

Publication Frequency

All manuscripts submitted and prepared according the guidelines are considered for publication. Approved for publication papers undergo rigorous stylistic editing. The editor reserves the right to make any necessary changes in the papers concerning orthography, punctuation, grammar, references, or requests the author to do. A copy of the edited paper along with the first proofs will be sent to the author for proofreading. They should be corrected and returned to the Editor within 2-3 weeks. Once the final version of the paper has been accepted, authors are requested not to make further changes to the text. After submission it usually takes 3-6 months before publication.

Open Access Policy

Kyiv-Mohyla Humanities Journal  provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Publication Ethics/Conflict of Interests

Kyiv-Mohyla Humanities Journal accepts original articles which were not published before. In case of plagiarism, the paper will immediately be returned to the author without consideration for publication in the journal. In case of any conflicts between the author and the journal, the editorial board refers to COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) standards of publication ethics. In the case that the author does not accept reviewers’ remarks, the editorial board considers on any conflicts and makes final decision. If the author does not agree with the final decision, s\he has a right to withdraw the paper without consideration for publication.

Journal without barriers

Kyiv-Mohyla Humanities Journal provides free access to original research without restriction barriers (i.e. subscription fees, licensing fees etc.). The journal allows re-use of content for non-commercial/educational purposes indexing the source.

Kyiv-Mohyla Humanities Journal do not have page charges, color figure charges or submission/publishing fees. KMHJ is fully sponsored by National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy so authors do not have to pay an APC (article-processing charge).

Kyiv-Mohyla Humanities Journal is an international, interdisciplinary and peer-reviewed online journal published at the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform. Kyiv-Mohyla Humanities Journal is in answer to current challenges facing Ukrainian studies in the humanities, and an immediate need for their further integration into the international academic community. Maintaining high standards and scholarly ethics, the journal is published annually. Kyiv-Mohyla Humanities Journal covers the broad areas of Literature, History, and Philosophy focusing mainly on Central&Eastern European and Ukrainian studies.
